Martha has left a legacy of love, companionship, friendship and care to her family and friends. Martha was the daughter of George and Irene Steinkamp; and is survived by her loving husband Jim McClain, Brother Jim Steinkamp, daughter Jayne Irene Smith, daughter in law Doreen McClain, my wife Christine McClain and myself, John R. McClain. And the pride of her life was that she was blessed with ten Grandchildren and eight Great Grandchildren (counting the two that are in the oven). She was a "great" great grandma…she would beam with love, pride and energy when they were around her. Martha was a faithful wife and mother and gave my Dad the opportunity to be the best he could be. She was always there for us and loved us and loved to open up our home to all of our family and friends; Mom will be fondly remembered for her hospitality, thoughtfulness and loving care to all who knew her. Mom, you set a high standard for us; and Dad you "married well" (story) and you both set the example for us to "marry well", I know I did! As I was looking through years and years of pictures, I could see happy memories and how Martha touched the lives of so many people, she made our life better, made a difference to us all; and, she was always there for her family and friends… whether she was supporting Dad in all he did, cooking and passing along recipes that will be enjoyed for generations, volunteering at the San Pedro Peninsula Hospital, bowling at Missile Bowl (back in the day), playing cards (bridge, quarter game or hand and foot) or just going out and sharing a meal and exchanging stories with her family and friends, these are special memories for us all. Mom was truly blessed with so many friends, many of which she has known since childhood. You were dear to her and she loved being with you…thanks for making her live a blessing, she lived a "good life". As we were in Eisehhower ICU Mom told me "she had a good life" (and this is acknowledged by all her dear family and friends here today); she passed peacefully with her family and friends by her side; but before she left us Mom was able to talk to her entire family before she passed, it was a blessing for us and a testimony to those around her. When Mom was in ICU she again acknowledged that she believed in Jesus Christ and based upon her faith and Jesus words in Jn 3:16 - For God so love the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life we will look forward to that day when we will see her again in Heaven. Maybe Mom (having the gift of hospitality) wanted to get a head start so that she can help prepare a place for us along with the help of her dear son Jeff, under the direction of her dear son in-law Ken Smith and with the oversight of her Dad George Steinkamp and Grandma Irene Steinkamp taking care of quality control and hospitality. Mom, you will now rest alongside your dear son Jeff and your Mom and Dad, George and Irene, may you have eternal peace and rest knowing that you set an example of love, companionship, friendship and care for many generations to come. I love you and we love you, Mom. Rest in Peace.
