Argentina Vindiola, 66, of Bryan passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. A time for the family to receive friends will be Thursday, January 24, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Hillier Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, with Funeral Mass immediately following at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 East 26th Street in Bryan, with Msgr. John McCaffrey officiating. Lunch will be served in the Parish Activity Center following Mass.
Argentina was born in Ciudad Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She is preceded in death by her father, Euvalester Gutierrez Saenz.
Left behind from her passing are her two sons, John Vindiola and Mechelle of Houston, and George Vindiola and Shannon of Dallas; grandchildren, John, Christian, Madeline, Benjamin, Mia and Olivia; her mother, Arcadia Amador; siblings, Aurora Corral and Esteban, Euvalester Gutierrez, Amparo Ramos and Ruben, Bertha Gutierrez, Jose Luis Gutierrez and Alma, Laura Diaz de Leon and Samuel, Juan Antonio Gutierrez and Nelda and numerous other family and friends.
Argentina graduated with a masters in Chemical Engineering from ITESM (Tec de Monterrey) and taught briefly before starting her family. She eventually returned to her professional life as a research chemist at Texas A&M University. Her longest and favorite tenure was as a Lab Supervisor for the Office of the Texas State Chemist. She retired from the Texas A&M System in 2010.
Argentina was involved in numerous professional organizations including various leadership positions within AOAC and ASFFPCO. In 2000, she was selected as a Fellow of AOAC International in recognition of her leadership and contributions, including serving as president and treasurer of the AOAC Southwest Section and Chair of the Safety Committee for AOAC.
Argentina was a past president of the Brazos County Aggie Mom's Club and a devoted fan of Texas A&M University. She spent many years as the staff advisor for the Mexican Student Association providing guidance to many students from Mexico.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made to St. Joseph School Trust Fund, 600 East 26th Street, Bryan, 77803.
