Dr. Billy Joe Adams, 91, of College Station, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010, in College Station.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010, at First Christian Church in Bryan. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church with Rev. Jesse Myers and Rev. Bob Bray officiating. Interment will be at College Station City Cemetery.

Dr. Billy Joe Adams was born June 2, 1919, in Forney, Texas, to John and Bula Mae Adams. He was a member of First Christian Church in Bryan, where he served in numerous capacities.

Billy attended Texas A&M University and graduated in the class of 1941 with a degree in accounting. He also received his Ph.D. from Texas A&M in 1977. Dr. Adams taught for a year at TCU in 1965 and then began teaching at Texas A&M University in 1966. He retired as Director of Emeritus of Continuing Education in 1983.

He is a United States Army veteran and retired from the Army Field Artillery in 1965 at the rank of Colonel. Billy served in Europe in WWII and served in Korea towards the end of the conflict.

Dr. Adams is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irelene Albright Adams; his son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Alice Adams; daughter, Patricia Manny; grandchildren, Michael Adams and wife Traci, Gregory Adams and wife Sandra, Adam Manny and wife Michele, Sundi Manny; nephew, Don Strickland and wife Linda.
