Joe was born on November 2, 1925 in Kosse, Texas to Howard and Velma Cole Mitchell. He was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended Tyler Junior College and Sam Houston State University. Joe was a veteran of the Korean War having served in Korea and Japan.
He married Geneva Ellison on December 3, 1954. They had two sons, David Mitchell and Randy Mitchell. Joe was a member of the Franklin Church of Christ, where he was an elder for six years before his illness caused his resignation. He loved his fellow man and greeted them at the door of the church as they came in. He and his good friend, Charles Morris traveled near and far to the games.
He will be remembered for his sweet spirit and smile as well as his quick wit and storytelling. His grandsons were his pride and joy and he didn't fail to tell you so.
Joe was preceded in death by his son, Randy Ray Mitchell, parents, Howard and Velma Cole Mitchell and brother, Bill Mitchell.
