In his profession, he was known as the "Undertaker." Kenneth Lowell Robinson answered the call of the Lord on March 29, 2013 at the age of 65. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Bryan, with the Rev. Craig Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery, Bryan. Visitation will be Friday, April 5, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., followed by a Wake Service, 6-8 p.m. at Daniel & Son Funeral Home.
The proud son of the late John Timothy Robinson and Inez Hoskins-Daniel, Kenneth was born July 15, 1947 in Galveston, Texas. Shortly after his birth, his father drowned trying to save a friend. His mother later married the late W. C. Daniel, Jr. who nurtured and raised him. From the age of three, the funeral business was ingrained in Kenneth, as he helped around the business all of his childhood, later to become the owner of Daniel & Son Funeral Home.
Kenneth graduated from E. A. Kemp High School in Bryan. He attended Texas A&M University, Prairie View A&M University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a minor in Economics from Huston-Tillotson College, currently Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. Kenneth furthered his education by receiving an Associate of Applied Science degree in Funeral Services from the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Services in Houston, Texas.
Kenneth married his college sweetheart, Betty Joyce Wooder of Houston in 1973. To this union, they were blessed with two sons, Terrance and Wesley, and two adored grandchildren, Camille and Timothy.
Kenneth was an active and devoted member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Bryan, serving as an Ordained Deacon, Trustee, past chairman of the Deacon Board and Sunday school teacher. He sang in the church choir and loved singing for the Lord. He believed the key to obedient living was to keep the right relationship with God, keep God's Commandments and possessed humility.
Kenneth was very active in the community. He has served as secretary of the Independent Funeral Directors Association of Texas (IFDA) and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He chaired the "Thanksgiving Food Basket" community service project for the Rotary Club of Aggieland. He also has served on the Board of the Texas Workforce Commission. Kenneth was the owner of Daniel & Son Funeral Home. As a member of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce, Kenneth had been nominated several times for the Community Impact Award for African-American Owned Businesses.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Inez and W.C. Daniel, Jr. and John Timothy Robinson; maternal grandparents, Leroy Hoskins, Sr. and Henretta Kemp Hoskins, and paternal grandparents, Rev. W. C. Daniel, Sr. and A. C. Daniel, John and Annabella Robinson.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Betty Joyce (Wooder) Robinson; two sons, Terrance Robinson of Houston and Wesley Robinson of Bryan; two grandchildren, Camille and Timothy, two sisters in-laws, Dorothy Neal-Palmer (Nicholas) and Linda Ruth Wooder-Simmons (Vernon), all of Houston; and a host of relatives and friends.
