Rashid Aziz, 82, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his home. A private family service is planned.
Mr. Aziz was born April 14, 1930 in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan, Iraq. He came to the U.S. as a foreign exchange student in 1956 to University of Arizona. He also attended Louisiana State University where he met his wife of 53 years, Virginia McVay. They married April 18, 1959 and after he received a B.S. in Horticulture, they moved to Baghdad, Iraq where Mr. Aziz worked in the Ministry of Agriculture.
In 1969, they and their three children, Karim, J'wan and Shwan, moved back to Louisiana where Mr. Aziz received his M.S. from LSU. In 1973 Mr. Aziz took a job as manager, then owner of a wholesale nursery until his retirement. In 1976, Mr. Aziz became a naturalized citizen of which he was very proud. He and his wife moved to Bryan in 2005.
Mr. Aziz was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; children, Karim Aziz and wife Barbara, J'wan Petitjean and husband Joe, Shwan Aziz and wife Stacey; grandchildren, Jake Aziz and wife Nancy, Clay Aziz, Adam Aziz, Chase Petitjean and wife Jennifer, Kelsie Aziz, Alexis Aziz; and his brothers, Mustafa, Ali and Omar.
Mr. Aziz was most proud of his wife, children and grandchildren and the lives that they lead.
The family gives special thanks to doctor's, nurse's and staff who provided care for him during his illness.
