September 28, 1922 – April 12, 2012 July 25, 1943 – July 6, 2007
Joint memorial services for Norah Ben Milliff Albright and her daughter, Nancy Catherine Albright, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the First United Methodist Church in Trinity with Rev. Russ Munch officiating.
Mrs. Albright passed away Thursday, April 12, in Trinity, at Avalon Place where she had been a resident since July 2007. Her daughter Nancy preceded her in death on July 6, 2007, in a Houston hospital. At the time the two lived in Spring.
Born September 28, 1922, in the Oakland Community of Houston County, Mrs. Albright was the daughter of Emma Eliza (Woelfley) and Michael A. Milliff. On June 30, 1940, she married Doyle Eugene Albright (who predeceased her), and they had one daughter, Nancy Catherine, born July 25, 1943, in Corpus Christi.
Mrs. Albright was the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University for many years. She and her daughter also typed numerous theses and dissertations while they lived in the Bryan/College Station area. One dissertation they typed was that of Dr. Joe Frank Thornton, resulting in a life-long friendship with Norah and Nancy.
After retiring and moving to Spring with her daughter, Mrs. Albright worked in the Human Resource Department of Tomball ISD. Later she substituted in schools in the Spring area and received many honors for her volunteer work in schools.
A true Southern lady, Mrs. Albright was known at Avalon Place for her special smile, her pleasant and quiet demeanor, and her ability to be friendly and cordial to everyone. She referred to Avalon as her home, and she loved the special attention she received at ETMC, Trinity. Dr. Thomas Cole, her physician, referred to her as one of his happiest patients.
Mrs. Albright, a life-long Methodist, enjoyed the visits from Rev. Munch and Rev. Everett McCollum and the visitation team from First United Methodist Church here. She also loved hearing the Trinity Singers and enjoyed hair and nail days in the Avalon Place Salon.
Those in charge of caring for her after she moved to Avalon Place were Dr. Joe Frank and Mary Ellen Thornton of Trinity and Larry and Charmen Catlin of Bryan. Mrs. Albright had worked in the Youngkin-Catlin law office, and she and Nancy frequently babysat the Catlins' three daughters who always remembered her with cards, letters, and pictures. When Shirley Sheffield, who had worked with Mrs. Albright in Tomball ISD, learned that Mrs. Albright was living in Avalon, she and her husband Billy became frequent visitors as did other community and church members.
Other special friends from the Houston area who visited her were Ann Hill who was instrumental in overseeing Mrs. Albright's move to Avalon, Susan Hartoon, and long-time family friend Mercie Davis and her brother. Both Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Hartoon taught with Nancy and were also friends of Mrs. Albright. Mike Williams, her former boss and then director of Human Resources at Tomball ISD, and Jerrie Nickolson, also a Tomball ISD Human Resource employee, remained friends with her and came frequently to visit Mrs. Albright. Betty Doss, a second cousin in Alabama, sent cards and letters to her and assisted in verifying family information.
Mrs. Albright's daughter Nancy received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M University. A dedicated elementary teacher and later an educational diagnostician in Aldine, Shepherd, Tomball, and Klein ISDs, Miss Albright touched the lives of hundreds of school children. She loved decorating her classroom for the elementary children.
Memorials may be made to Tomball ISD Scholarship Fund, the First United Methodist Church of Trinity, Avalon Place, or ETMC Hospital, Trinity.
