Marjorie Ferry Reid, 89, passed away July 5, 2012 in Bryan, Texas. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 2901 Texas Avenue South in College Station from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday, July 7 and funeral service will be at 1:30 PM Sunday, July 8 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 906 George Bush Drive in College Station.

Marjorie was born March 18, 1923 in Torrington, Connecticut, the daughter of Raymond L. Ferry and Metta Rosenbeck Ferry. She graduated from Torrington High School and, at the outbreak of World War II, enlisted in the Women Marine Corps. Her military service was cut short due to medical issues and she supported the remaining years of the war effort working at Consolidated Aircraft Corporation in San Diego, California. After the war, she worked at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in La Jolla, California, where she met her future husband, Robert O. Reid. Bob and Marjorie were married February 1, 1947 at St. James-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in La Jolla.

Upon completion of his studies at Scripps, Bob was recruited to join in the founding of the Department of Oceanography and Meteorology at Texas A & M College. Bob and Marjorie and their first two children moved to College Station in 1951. Four more children followed, all born in Bryan. While raising six children, Marjorie opened the Copperstone Hearth Tea Room and sold real estate in her spare time.

She was a beloved member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church family in College Station. She was a 58 year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a member of the Embroiderers' Guild where she spent many enjoyable hours creating beautiful needlework and cross stitch designs, Women's Club, Bridge Club, and Garden Club. She also loved traveling and exploring new frontiers and being a part of her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's lives.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert O. Reid and daughter, Maryellen Anderson.

She is survived by son Robert J. Reid and wife, Tina of Bangor, Maine; daughter Nancy O. Reid of San Antonio; daughter Carol R. McCormick of College Station; son Thomas J. Reid of South Hero, Vermont; Russell W. Reid of Bryan; sons-in-law Ken R. McCormick and William V. Anderson; daughters-in-law Pamela A. Reid and Lea H. Currie; grandchildren Kimberlee Spurlin, Wesley Reid, Naomi McCormick, Brandon Anderson, Nolan Anderson, Ellie Brown, Nicholas Reid, and Katherine Reid; and four great grand children Garrett Heitman, Aaden Anderson, Kason Anderson, and Kaely Brown.
