January 17, 1944 – October 1, 2012

Clyde Russell Cooper, Jr., 68, of Bryan, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 in his home. The family will receive friends at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan on Wednesday, October 3, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Hillier Funeral Home on Thursday, October 4, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Ray Marshall of Reliance Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Palestine, Texas, at Herrington Land of Memory Cemetery.

Russell was the only child of Clyde Russell Cooper, Sr. and Mary Evalyn Collie-Cooper. After moving to Bryan, Texas, he attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan and after serving in the U.S. Navy, married his sweetheart, Vivian Lee Easley-Cooper in 1963.

Russell worked as a butcher for Orr's Grocery Store, A&P Store, Piggly Wiggly, and then retired from Godwin's Supermarket in Hearne.

He was devoted to his family and enjoyed helping them each day, especially making early morning wake-up calls. Russell always had a smile on his face and tried to face life with good humor. He had such a kind and gentle soul.

Russell was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Evalyn Collie-Cooper.

He is survived by his father, Clyde Russell Cooper, Sr., and his stepmother, Helen Apple-Cooper of Palestine; his loving wife of 49 years, Vivian and children, Russell Wayne Cooper and wife Tina, Ronald Lee Cooper and wife Bonnie, Robin Denise Cooper-Gonzalez and husband Jose, Donna Jean Cooper-Adams and husband Robert and Dianne Lynn Cooper; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Russell's memory to Still Creek Christian School, 6055 Hearne Rd., Bryan, TX 77808 and Salvation Army, 2506 Cavitt Avenue, Bryan, TX 77802.
