LEXINGTON - Dr. Jesse D. Gillespie Jr., 89, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014, in Lexington, S.C. Born March 18, 1925 in Pickens, S.C., he was the son of the late Jesse D. Gillespie Sr. and Lillie Mae Carpenter Gillespie. He attended Clemson University and graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Pickens and Easley for 44 years. He was a member of Easley First Baptist Church, a former member of the Easley Lions Club, and a veteran of the Korean War.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 72 years, Carol Dalton Gillespie, and two brothers, Dr. Marion Ray Gillespie and Charles L. Gillespie.
He is survived by a brother, Dr. Hal G. Gillespie (Sherry) of Spokane, Wash., children, M. Angela Callahan (Bob) of Pompano Beach, Fla., Dr. Steven D. Gillespie (Susan) of Nashville, Tenn., and Jan G. Kollar (Blaine) of Lexington, S.C., 6 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Pickens, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Easley First Baptist Church, 300 East First Avenue, Easley, SC 29640, or to a charity of one's choice.
