Carl Lee Bills Sr.

TROUTMAN, N.C. — Carl Lee Bills Sr. passed away on Feb. 21, 2014, at the age of 87 at his home in Troutman, N.C.

He was born April 23, 1926, in Columbia City, Indiana, to Roland K. Bills and Myrtle Waltz Bills Wolfe.

Our father was proud to serve his country during World War II and enlisted in the United States Navy on May 5, 1943, and served until April 7, 1946. He received his training at Great Lakes, Illinois, and CASU 22 at Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He served aboard the USS Beckham (APA-133) and participated in the Iwo Jima invasion, the Okinawa invasion, and saw action in Occupied Korea and Occupied China.

On December 4, 1948, Carl married the lovely Betty Ann Price. They were married for 57 years until her death in 2005. He was also predeceased by an infant son, three grandchildren, and one sister, Darlene Bills Renner.

Carl is survived by daughter Susan Vickous (Melvin) and April Martin (Dorsie), all of Easley, S.C., daughter Lisa Newton and sons Daniel Bills, Carl Bills Jr. (Yvonne) and Michael Bills Sr. (Tammy), all of Troutman, N.C., 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by extended family who were very dear to him — John Price (Shirley) of Mesa, Arizona, Beverly Price Small (Robert), Joyce Price Rexroat (Franz), Linda Price Oller (Ray), all of Indianapolis, Indiana.

A private ceremony was held on Feb. 24, 2014, and with full military honors, Carl was interred beside his wife at Iredell Gardens in Statesville, N.C.
