Marjorie "Margie" Bragg Gibson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and cherished member of the Upstate and South Georgia communities, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, completing her life's journey at the age of 102.
Born on September 27, 1921 to Henry J. Bragg and Bertha Jenkins Bragg in Screven, Georgia, Margie was one of the middle children in her family of ten siblings. She lived a life marked by love, laughter, story-telling and determination. Margie was very patriotic and proud of her time as a "Rosie the Riveter" at Warner Robins Air Force Base during World War II, where she was recognized for a stretch of 100 days without a single day off.
Margie spent her early adult life traveling with her electrician husband through the South to then establish roots in Pickens, S.C., and Hawkinsville, Ga. She worked as a homemaker and then in retail sales of women's attire.
Margie was predeceased by her parents, eight siblings, numerous relatives, her beloved son, Charles Douglas Gibson, Jr. (Doug), daughter-in-law, Julie Gibson, and son-in-law, Jerry Miller.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Miller of Simpsonville, her son, Michael Gibson (Cherie), her last surviving sister, Jewel Bragg Dent, sister-in-law, Lawson Gibson, and numerous well-loved nieces and nephews. Her pride and joy were her seven grandchildren and her 15 great-grandchildren. She adored her "grands and greats". The "greats" took pride in Margie being 102 as many of their friends could not imagine someone living and loving at that age.
The family is grateful to the caregivers who were present for Margie in the final years of her life, especially the staff at Magnolia Manor of Spartanburg and Crescent Hospice of Greenville/Spartanburg. Their devotion was priceless.
A celebration of Margie's life will be held at 2 p.m. on January 27, 2024 with a visitation to follow the service. Both to be held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Simpsonville, SC. Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by Margie are invited to honor her memory and share stories of her remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers Margie would be honored by a donation to Crescent Hospice, 105 Lovell Dr., Greenville, SC 29607 (in memory of Margie Gibson) or to the charity of your choice, in memory of Margie Gibson.
