Reuben E. Lunz Obituary
Reuben E. Lunz, 92, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:18 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at Auglaize Acres.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1924, in Pusheta Township in the family home he lived in his whole life, the son of Herman and Olga (Baeumel) Lunz, who preceded him in death.
On June 20, 1948, he married Phyllis I. Rausch, who preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2005.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Bruce) Stolp, LaQuinta, Calif., and Anita Lunz, Wapakoneta; four grandchildren: Andrea Hodges, Corey (Jennifer) Zwiebel, Carey (Nick) Piehl, Cassie (Chris) Thomas; seven great grandchildren: Jalyssa and Kalen Zwiebel, Garrett, Courtney, and Carter Piehl, Koen and Liam Thomas.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrtle (Clarence) Ruck and Milda (Randolph) Zwiebel; a brother Raymond Lunz; a brother-in-law Lester Koch; a sister-in-law Dorothy Rausch; and a nephew Steven Andrew.
Reuben was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Pusheta Road, where he served as a trustee for many years and used his talents as a carpenter to work on several improvement projects in the basement and church.
He helped to design and construct the addition to the front of the church, which included making a new wood frame for the stained glass window that had been covered over many years earlier and is now on the south wall of the new addition.
He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 372 for 50 years, of which he retired from as a carpenter. Reuben had been engaged in farming his entire life, helping his father and then taking over the farm when he was married.
He spent many hours in his wood working shop constructing many things from for family. He made dining tables and jewelry boxes of various woods and designs, small pieces of furniture, cabinets in his home, and three grandfather clocks, the last of which he completed when he was 90.
He was an avid card player, enjoyed gardening and grafted and grew peach trees. He loved sharing his bounty with others.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Pusheta Road, with the Rev. Kurt Klingbeil officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pusheta Road.
The family will receive from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, 1102 Lincoln Ave. (Ohio 501), Wapakoneta. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church Mission Support.
