Fredrick D. Spights Born: Feb. 4, 1947; In Amory, MS Died: Jan. 31, 2014; In Joliet, IL Fredrick Douglas Spights, age 66, went home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2014. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Fred was born in Amory, Mississippi on February 4, 1947 to Tommie Spights and Kathyrn J. Bailey. The family later relocated to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It was there, as a young child, Fred gave his life to Christ while attending Mount Carmel Baptist Church. After graduating from Douglass High School, he served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Fred later relocated to Joliet, Illinois and attended St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Odell Thompson. He was employed at Union Oil, (now CITGO) in Lemont, IL. After retirement, he founded his own company, Small World Transportation. Fred is preceded in death by Tommie Spights (father), Kathyrn Taylor (mother), and Michael Spights (son). He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mary (Gaines) Spights; his children, Keith (Stephanie) Patterson of Oklahoma, Suzette (Michael) Norton of Joliet, Tiffany Griffin of Texas, Kristina (Steve) Terry of Texas, and Brandon Thomas-Spights of Joliet. He leaves his step-children, Sonja (Michael) Hicks of Oklahoma, Joy Gaines and Douglas Gaines of Joliet; Tequana Coleman of Oklahoma. He also has two foster children, Jeremiah and Diane Marshall of Joliet. He also leaves his brothers, Thomas Spights, Kerry Penney and James Penney, all of Oklahoma, John Amos, and Tyrone Spights of Joliet. He also leaves his sisters, Merlean Myers, Francine (Authur) Thornton and Latasha Spights-Brooks, all of IL; two loving step-mothers, Perlean Spights and Elizabeth Spights; and a special friend, Cassandra Lewis. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. Funeral Services Saturday, 11:00AM at St. John Baptist Church, Visitation 10:00AM-11:00AM. Rev.
