Antonides, Alan Edward Born May 21, 1950, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on December 5, 2012 at the age of 62. Formerly of Chicago, Illinois, he lived in Plainfield, Illinois for the past 38 years. Alan is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Beverly (nee Ermey); his children, Eric, Emily (Eric) Zettergren, Blake; his granddaughter, Tristan; sister-in-law, Susan (the late Harold) Wilson; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a lifetime of great friends; and his faithful canine companion, Cody. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward and Frieda (nee Shieve) Antonides; his sister, Ruth Born and his brother, Robert Born; and his faithful canine companion, Bryer. Alan was a family man, and a man of many trades. He was a member of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge #536 A.F. & A.M. and Joliet Moose Lodge #300. Although he retired as a member of IBEW Local 15, his career began with Carpenters Local 1248 after studying architecture at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He used these skills to build his family's home, and continued to relish in home-improvement projects involving woodwork. Alan retired in May 2011 from Exelon Corporation after 29 years of service. Upon retirement, if Alan was not spending time relaxing with his family or working on a project, he could be seen driving his 1965 Shelby Cobra with the Windy City Cobra Club. Alan was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Joliet, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 10, 3:00 until 9:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Avenue, Joliet, IL 60435, with visitation 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church. A private family interment will be at a later date.
