CHARLES EUGENE SCULLY Born: April 17, 1921; In Joliet Died: April 30, 2014; In Joliet Charles E. Scully of Joliet, age 93, passed away suddenly at Senior Star at Weber Place on April 30, 2014. Chuck was born in Joliet, IL on April 17, 1921, and lived there all his life. He was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School, Class of 1938, Joliet Junior College, and the University of Illinois. While attending the University of Illinois, WWII started and Chuck was called to duty as a radio operator for the Army 398 SIG Company. After the war, he worked as a salesman for various companies in the roofing industry. Chuck was very faithful and devoted to God and was always willing to help those in need. He fondly gave away fruits and vegetables from his garden, was always ready with a joke, and was a loyal friend. He enjoyed the stock market, reading, gardening, travel, and bird watching. He was a member of the Joliet Moose Lodge #300 and Elks Lodge #296. Chuck is survived by his sisters, Betty (Donald) Kelly and Peggy (late Matthew) Futterer. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Also survived by his beloved companion, Marg Gruben, whom he cherished dearly; Carroll Klotz, who was like a daughter; and long-time friend, Rich Le Grand. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Roland E. and Irene V. (Woodruff) Scully; his brothers, George (late Jean) Scully and Robert (late Veronica) Scully. Funeral Services for Charles E. Scully will be Monday, May 5, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
