Emil E. Meader Obituary
Meader, Emil E. Age 92, late of Lockport passed away on October 16, 2013 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born July 14, 1921, in Joliet, IL, he received his education in the Joliet schools and graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1939. Emil was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Joliet. During World War II Emil served in the US Army 76th Infantry Division of the 3rd Army in the European theater. He received the Bronze Star for his service between December 1942 and December 1945. Emil worked in the accounting departments of US Steel's Joliet Coke Plant and of the EJ&E Railroad in Joliet. He retired from the EJ&E in 1986. He was a member of the VFW Post 5788, American Legion Post 18 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1557. For many years Emil was active in youth baseball and was a member of the Old Timers Baseball Association. Emil was an avid lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox and was happy to see them win the World Series in 2005. Emil was preceded in death by his parents, Marie (Meyers) and Emil J. Meader of Joliet; wife, Kathryn (Harney); a brother, Raymond, and son, James. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (David) Bennett of Lincroft, NJ; daughter-in-law, Gail Meader Graber of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Carol (Matthew) Lang of Fair Haven, NJ, Diane (Jeffery) Fribance of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jarod (Kayla) Meader of Sioux Falls, SD, and Joseph Meader also of Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandchildren, James and John Lang of Fair Haven, NJ, Cammy and Olivia Meader of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Kenneth Keith of Lisle, IL; nephews, Raymond (Mary Beth) Meader of Joliet, IL, Robert (Cheryl) Meader of Lockport, Randall Meader of Alameda, CA; niece, Mary Alice (James) Kauling of Collinsville, IL, and dear friend, Diane Doerfler of Lockport, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Meader Family Scholarship would be appreciated. Send checks to Augustana College, Development Office, 2001 S. Summit Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57197 indicating the Meader Family Scholarship Fund on the memo line. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First & Santa Cruz Lutheran Parish, 55 West Benton, Joliet, IL with the Pastor Keith Forni officiating.
