Robert Deiss Obituary
Deiss M.D., Robert Leo Of Oak Brook, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2013 with his loving wife Joan and family at his side. Born in Joliet September 14, 1925. Bob graduated from Joliet Catholic High School and served in Italy with the United States Army during WWII, retiring with the rank of lieutenant. Bob graduated from the University of Illinois School of Medicine, where he was president of Nu Sigma Nu Medical fraternity. He interned at Cook County Hospital. After four years of family practice in Lockport, IL, he completed his residency in radiology at Hines VA Hospital. Bob practiced radiology at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital for over 30 years. Longstanding supporter of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Art Institute of Chicago and Goodman Theater. Bob was a lover of history and avid traveler, including being one of the first Chicagoans to travel to China in 1976. Bob was also a founding member of the Oenetrians wine group and loved spectator sports particularly the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, Chicago Bears and the Chicago Bulls. Survived by wife, Joan; beloved daughters, Karen Baker of Oak Brook, Mary Kay Deiss of Brookline, Nancy Keller of Geneva, Switzerland and Susan Deiss of Chicago. Loving grandfather of Robert Grant Baker, Elizabeth Baker, Paige Resnick, Karalyn Resnick, Jerome Keller and Alexandra Keller. He is also survived by his sisters, Donna (the late Milton) Wunderlich, Katherine Zweifel (Harry), many wonderful nieces and nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Leo J. Deiss; sister, Audrey Abens (Donald), Paul Deiss (Georgia); his late parents-in-law, Betty and Walter Mallek. A heartfelt thank you to the outstanding caretakers including the St. Thomas Hospice of Hinsdale who helped Bob through his final days. A gathering for Bob will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 9:30 am until the time of Memorial Service 11:00 am at Adolf Funeral Home, 7000 South Madison Street, Willowbrook, IL 60527.
