Robert W. Georgantas, Sr. Robert W. Georgantas, Sr. "Major" Age 91, of Lockport, peacefully Tuesday, January, 21, 2014, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Joliet, living in Joliet before moving to Lockport in 1946. Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II. He entered the Illinois State Police Academy in March of 1949 and after his training, he was assigned to State Police District 5, Joliet as a trooper and was promoted to Sergeant in 1952. He was then assigned to District 4 in Blue Island as District Commander and promoted to Lieutenant in 1959. He attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy at Quantico in 1961, then transferred back to District 5 as Acting District Commander, was promoted to Captain in 1963, was District Commander until promotion to Major in 1975. He was in command of Area 1, Districts 2-3-4-5, District 15 Illinois Toll Road until he retired in 1978. He then went into Shell gasoline business with his son Bob, Jr. and ran Bob 's Shell in Bolingbrook, Joliet and Lockport, retiring in 1995. Since his retirement from the Shell stations, he lived in his home on the Kankakee River in Wilmington, hosting annual picnics for the Will County Police Chiefs and Illinois State retirees. Bob was Past-President of the Will County Police Chiefs Association, Cook County Council of Police Chiefs and Lockport Boy 's Baseball for 20 years in the 60 's and 70 's. He also managed 18 year olds baseball teams for 20 years. He was a member of Illinois Association Chiefs of Police, International Association Chiefs of Police, FBI National Academy Association, FOP Troopers 41 Lodge, Will County Sheriff 's Merit Commission since 1987 and Chairman of the Commission since 1989, Lockport VFW Post #5788, Lockport American Legion John Olson Post #18, 50 year member of the Lockport Moose Lodge #1557 and life member of Joliet Rivals Club. Preceded in death by his wife Gloria (Fracaro); his parents Anthony and Margaret (Palmer); brothers George and Donald and a sister Betty Bick. Survived by his loving children Cindy Georgantas and Robert W. Jr. (Paulette); grandchildren Dr. Robert W. III, Laine (Josh) Vallero, Ginny Georgantas, Dominic (Kate), Angela Welter, Dena Welter, Lisa Welter and Gina (Joe) Palluck; seven great-grandhcildren; brothers Clarence (Terry) and Richard (Judy); sisters Connie A 'Hearn and Lorraine (David, Deceased) A 'Hearn. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice, Mayo Clinic Urology Department, Joliet Diocese Catholic Charities or St. Joseph Church, Lockport would be appreciated. Bob 's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Daniel Co for his exceptional care and also to Senior Star at Weber Place nurses, care givers and administration for their loving care they have shown to their dad. Per Bob 's wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Family will greet relatives and friends, Saturday, February 1, from 9:00 am until time of Memorial Mass at 11:00 am at ST.
