Obituary Condolences

Schubert, Dorothy A. (nee Hummert) Age 93, of New Lenox, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday May 28, 2013. She was born on August 18, 1919 in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Edward William and Mary Catherine (Simons) Hummert. She married Eugene Arthur Schubert on May 27, 1947 at Holy Name Cathedral Chicago, IL and he survives. Dorothy was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Quincy, and attended Gem City Business School. Over the years Dorothy was active in St. Jude Parents Club, Providence Women's Club, St. Jude's Council of Catholic Women and the Parish Caritas Committee. She was a member of the Summer Golf League at Braidwood Recreation Club. For many years, she attended daily mass. She opened her home with warm hospitality to friends and acquaintances and initiated "hat parties". She loved to shop and got a thrill over a bargain. With her husband, Gene, she traveled extensively and spent retirement winters in Palm Desert, California with family and friends. Dorothy was proud of her entire family, including her children, grandchildren and in-laws. In addition to her husband Eugene, she is survived by her children, Eugene (Pat) Schubert, Susan (Richard) Swarthout, Dorothy (Don) Van Dyke, Tony (Laurie) Schubert, Bill (Mary) Schubert and Gerri Schubert. Her grandchildren include: Gene, Kevin and Dan Schubert; Susan and Jenn Van Dyke; Tony, Christopher and Jennie Schubert, and Jackie Origer; Bill, Mike and Steve Schubert and Beth Pitel. Throughout the years she enjoyed the company of her extended family: Florence Schubert, Fr. Gerold Schubert, OFM, Roger (Mary) Schubert, Virginia (Earl) Whitman and Eleanor (Marc) Flotte and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Alice Killeen; her brother, Edward Hummert; and one granddaughter, Lauren Van Dyke. The family would like to especially thank Joliet Area Community Hospice for their compassion and support. Funeral Saturday 9:30 AM from Hickey Memorial Chapel 442 E. Lincoln Hwy. New Lenox to St. Jude Church 10:00 AM Mass. Private Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation Friday 3:00 - 8:00 PM. 815-485-8697
