Ruth Avada Flack, 93, of Brookston, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Heritage Healthcare of West Lafayette.

She was born on Feb. 24, 1921 in Scircleville to William Harley and Clara (Ferguson) Carter. They later moved to Brookston, where she graduated from Brookston High School in 1939 and went on to graduate from Kettering Business College in 1942.
Her marriage was to George Alfred Flack on Sept. 21, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1973.
Ruth had worked at Farmers State Bank from 1939-1941, and at Farm Security Office in Indianapolis in 1942 and later transferred to the Chicago office in 1943 to help with the war effort. She was also the bookkeeper for her and her husband's business, Flack's Repair Shop.
She was a housemother at a mission in Kentucky and at a sorority at Purdue University. Ruth was also a caregiver for elderly in their homes.
She served as Secretary/Treasurer for the Prairie Land Community Housing for nine years and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and Order of the Eastern Star.
Ruth was a devoted Christian, serving God her entire life. A member of the Brookston United Methodist Church, Ruth served in many capacities, including the United Methodist Women and the choir.
She is survived by her children; Russell Flack (wife: Linda) of Brookston, Donald Flack (friend: Gloria) of Battleground, and John Flack (wife: Debbie) of Monticello; two brothers, Dick Carter (wife: Helen) of Monticello and William Carter of Elberfeld; and a sister, Mary Lou Haderle (husband:
Robert) of West Lafayette.
Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Lori Hylton (husband: Kevin) of Brookston, Amy Morris (husband: Alan) of Lafayette, Tony Flack (wife: Rachel) of Frankfort, Tracey Flack (wife: Tammi) of Rossville, Duane Flack (wife: Angie) of Lafayette, Kerri Dodd (husband: Bert) of Vincennes, and
Shawn Flack (wife: Mindy) of Toledo, Ohio; two step-grandchildren, Chris (wife: Kandace) Phearson of Delphi and Holly Dixon of Monticello; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are a son, Kevan Flack, and two brothers, Charles and Tom Carter.
Friends may call from 4-8 pm, Tuesday, May 20, at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. A Funeral Service will be held there at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, with Pastor Devin Cook officiating.
