John E. Perry, loving husband, devoted father, and papa, 69, of Brookston, was called home to be with our Savior at 5:13 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Central of Lafayette.
John joined the United States Navy at 18 and served as a Naval Aid for John F. Kennedy and worked at the White House during his four years of service. He was very proud to serve his country and enjoyed sharing stories about his time spent with the Kennedy's. John then went on to obtain a Bachelor's in Business from the University of Illinois.
His marriage was to Karen Borges on Oct. 16, 1980, in Fargo, N. D., where they eloped the morning after John proposed.
John had lived in Waukegan, Ill., Peoria, Ill., Minnesota, and several other places before moving to Brookston in 1993.
John was an active member of the Lions Club and Past President of the Little League. He had worked for American Hospital Supply, Glasrock, and Oxytech in Lafayette. John and Karen also owned Ultimate Video in Brookston for over 20 years and Pizza King for 12 years. Everyone in the community knew and loved John. He will be missed by many.
John's children were his life. He never wanted to miss a moment with them and would always be in attendance at their sporting events. He loved telling jokes, golfing, reading books, watching Sports Center, and all of the Chicago teams, except for the Sox, but most of all, John loved life.
Surviving with his wife are his children, Chris (Brittany) Perry, West Lafayette, and Courtney (Anthony) Williams, Muncie; grandsons, Bentley Perry and Avery Williams; granddaughter, Baby Remington Perry, on the way; and his mother and father-in-law, whom he was very close to, Patsy and Jim Wyatt, Peoria, Ill.
Friends may call from 3 - 8 p.m. Friday at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brookston United Methodist Church with Pastor Devin Cook officiating.
Private family interment to follow at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the (8604 Allisonville Road, Suite 140, Indianapolis, Ind., 46250).
John's family would also like to thank the community for their love and support and to remind everyone of the importance of being an organ donor and saving another's life.
