Maryellen (Smith) Thornton, 89, of Tecumseh Bend since 1974, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 4:20 a.m. at Monticello Healthcare, where she had resided for three weeks.

She was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Logansport, to the late Ralph and Amy (Fawcett) Smith.
She was a 1942 graduate of Logansport High School, and graduated from Indiana Business College, with a degree in bookkeeping. She did bookkeeping and was an office manager at various businesses in the area for many years, then working for Bob Rohrman Auto Group, Lafayette, in the office for 19 years, retiring from there.
She belonged to the Retroact Theatrical Performer's in Monticello, traveling around Indiana and Illinois putting on plays and skits. She enjoyed announcing horse shows for the White County Horse and Pony Club for many years. She also enjoyed playing euchre with her family and loved to golf and bowl in her younger years.
Survivors include her daughter, Amy (Jim) Elliott, Brookston; son, David (Lori) Thornton, Logansport; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 p.m. until her funeral service at 7 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi; Rev. Ed Selvidge officiating.
