Patricia Ann Girtz, 83, Monticello, died at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born March 23, 1931 in Coal City, Ill. to Thomas R. and Anna Marie Magdeline (Chekytis) Busaytis. On July 31, 1955, in Yokohama, Japan, she married Elmer Ernest Girtz. He survives.
Patricia was a former member of Sitka Baptist and a member of Zion Bethel Church of Monticello. She loved to sew, garden, and especially loved helping with the farm animals. Before her marriage, Patricia worked in the payroll department at Joliet Arsenal in Illinois, and as a civilian secretary to the Department of the Army in Japan, where she met and married her husband, Elmer.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer E. Girtz, Monticello; children, Catherine (Ken) Gross, Monticello, David (Beth) Girtz, Monticello, Lisa C. (Michael) Murtha, Crofton, Md.; grandchildren, Kyle A. Girtz, Monticello, Kayla E. Girtz, Monticello; and sister, Andrea (Lionel) Williamson, Coal City, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Stephen Mark Girtz; sister, Mary Jo Busaytis; and brother, Thomas R. Busaytis Jr.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 5 p.m. Friday at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello. Celebration of Life Service will take place at 5 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Messer of the Zion Bethel Church of Monticello officiating.
Graveside Services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bedford Cemetery in rural Monon.
Memorials may be given to the or to the White County Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
