Jordan, Charlotte Mapp - Norwalk  
Charlotte Mapp Jordan, age 100, transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, April 27, 2015, four days prior to her 101st birthday. She was born on May 1, 1914 in Camden, South Carolina to the late Dinah Baskin Thompson and Wesley James, the eldest girl of 9 children. While growing up, Charlotte attended Camden public schools. At the age of 14, Charlotte made the journey north and settled in Norwalk, Connecticut. After establishing residence in Norwalk, she worked for Notre Dame Convalescent Home until her retirement, at age 65. Upon retiring, she became a home care attendant until her final retirement. At an early age, Charlotte joined Canaan Institutional Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir. To Charlotte, her faith was deeply rooted in her Christian beliefs. She served her church tirelessly until she could no longer serve. One of her favorite songs was Jordan River, “I got one more river to cross.” Those left to cherish her memories include three sons, Sam Thompson of Norwalk, CT, Hayward “Buddy” Mapp (Jackie) of Wilkes Barre, PA, Thomas “Speedy” Mapp of Norwalk, CT, two daughters, Ruth Bember (Eugene) of Ciccolo, TX, Helen “Kitty” Robinson (Andrew) of Norwalk, CT, and two honorary daughters Deborah “Debbie” Odom of Norfolk, VA and Vivian “Bookie” Sumpter of Norwalk, CT. Additional loved ones to continue her legacy include, 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and family friends. Loved ones who preceded Charlotte in death were her parents and children Almeta “Gracie” Thompson, Eloise Thompson and Elizabeth Thompson. In addition, she was predeceased by two husbands, George Mapp and Gene Jordan, brothers, John Thompson, Levi Thompson, Tommy Thompson, and sisters, Sally “Mud” Oliver, Rose Coleman, Ada “Noonie” McClendon, Dinah “Coot” Bracey, Catherine “Cat” Brooks. Friends may greet the family on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 9:00a.m in Canaan Institutional Baptist Church 31 Concord Street, Norwalk, CT. The funeral service will begin at 10:00a.m. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk, CT.
