Anna Rubino Young

Anna Rubino Young, 102, died on April 24. Anna was born October 11, 1910 to Raffaelo Tirella and Caterina Astuto Tirella in Norwalk, Connecticut.
She was the wife of the late Benjamin Rubino and Philip T. Young.
Second to her family and many friends, Anna's love in life was doing for others. Starting with her young life and for many years she raised several foster children many of whom were mentally handicapped. This led to years of volunteer service for STAR, INC. In 1958 she appeared on the Martha Raye Telethon to raise funds for STAR. She and her husband Benny received a citation from Governor Abraham Ribicoff in connection with Foster Parents Day honoring those who offer the love, affection, respect and security of family life to children who because of many circumstances cannot be cared for by their own parents.
Anna was praised for her tireless efforts as one of the most dedicated volunteers by the American Cancer Society. Over 50 years of service to this, the American Red Cross, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, NEON, Bread and Roses, March of Dimes, Woman's Crises Center, Norwalk Emergency Shelter, Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, School Sisters of Notre Dame and Norwalk Community College earned her the honor of Woman of the Year in 2002 by the St. Ann Club. November 2, 2002 was then proclaimed Anna Young Day by Mayor Richard Moccia. She also received two Connecticut General Official Citations for devotion to family and community, and the President's Call to Service Award.
Anna is survived by her daughters Marion Nardi and Anna Richter, son-in-law Robert Nardi , grandchildren - Jeffrey Richter, Noelle Richter, Amy and Peter Tucci, great grandchildren Jesse Chalk, Courtney Richter, Justin Richter, Christopher Buzzeo, Peter Tucci, Benni Tucci, Carlo Tucci and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, Anna was predeceased by Son-in-Law Noel Richter, Sisters Rose Forcellina, Millie Palumbo, Jennie Festa, Nettie Tirella and Brothers John, Joseph, Carmine and Bill Tirella.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29, 11 AM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. Anna's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 PM.
