Concetta (Boccaccio) Salafia, 91, of Unionville, formerly of East Hartford, widow of Sebastian S. Salafia, Sr., passed away peacefully Friday, February 21, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving and grateful family. Born in Hartford, September 12, 1922, daughter of the late Santo and Marianna (Gilberto) Boccaccio Sr., she resided in the Hartford area her entire life. Prior to retiring, Concetta was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford and the former Arrow-Hart and Hegeman Company also in Hartford. She was a communicant at the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Unionville and St. Mary Church in East Hartford. Concetta was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Travelers Girls Club.
She is survived by her two children, Sebastian S. Salafia Jr., of Manchester/West Hartford and Judith S. Reilly of Unionville, her seven siblings, Rose Cassarino of South Windsor, Frances Tebecio of East Hartford, Pauline Brancati of South Windsor, Richard Boccaccio of Westbrook, John Boccaccio of Old Lyme, Joseph Boccaccio of Wilmington, NC, and Fr. Michael Boccaccio, Pastor of St. Philip Church in Norwalk, seven grandchildren, Jamie, Melissa, Marc, Raechel, Chelsea, Patrick and Kara and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Carol Puzzo Salafia and her son-in-law, Michael B. Reilly.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude for the wonderful care given by Dr. Laverne Wright, Farmington Valley VNA, and her loving caregivers to include, Kate, Jen, Meredith, Alice, Laura and Jackie.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Monday (Feb. 24) from 4:00-8:00pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday (Feb. 25) at 10:30am in St. Mary Church (everyone is kindly invited to meet us directly at church), 15 Maplewood Ave., East Hartford followed by burial in Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford.
