Dino G. Zapherson
January 22, 1931 - July 2, 2014
Dino G. Zapherson, 83, husband of the late Helen Zapherson, passed away on July 2 2014 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
Dino was born in Norwalk, CT and served in the Korean War
in 1953 as a Dental Mechanic. He was married in 1958 to Helen Zapherson.
They lived in Stamford, CT for approximately 20 years before retiring to Boca Raton, Florida. After 18 years in Florida they moved back to the Harborview area of Norwalk, CT to build a house on property that was passed down from Dino's parents. They lived in that home for a couple years before his wife Helen passed away suddenly. Dino was married to his wife Helen for 51 years. After that, Dino moved down to live with his son Michael and family in Arden, North Carolina and recently moved to the North Carolina State Veteran Home in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
Dino worked for many years in the retail industry and started out in Miles Shoes of Stamford, CT. He later worked in the carpet business both for a large carpet company and also with his own carpet business. Dino was also a partner with his wife Helen managing a Ceramics Studio that grew from a small home business to a larger business with a storefront in Springdale, CT. Dino had a passion for sports and spent many years refereeing basketball and volleyball games at the recreational level.
He is survived his son George and wife June of Monroe, Connecticut and his son Michael and wife Gillan of Arden, North Carolina and grandsons Alex, Christian, Michael and Ryan and granddaughters Rachel and Nicole. He is predeceased by his parents George and Katina Zapherson and sister Marie of Norwalk, Connecticut.
Friends and family may call Thursday, July 10th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 11th at 10:00am in Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk.
