Doris M. Sokosh
Resident of New Canaan
Doris M. Sokosh of New Canaan, CT, age 82, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014 in Norwalk Hospital after a long illness. Doris was born on April 7, 1931 to the late Paul and Margaret Lengyel (Blackman), and grew up in Norwalk, CT. She married the late John Sokosh of New Canaan, CT in 1950 and they celebrated 48 years together before his passing.
Doris was a Jehovah's Witness and gained much joy and strength from her faith. Sadly, she had battled cancer most of her adult life and had become involved with the Foundation for Advancement in Cancer Therapy and Mrs. Ruth Sackman, its founder in 1975. Doris worked tirelessly alongside Ruth in not only conquering her own cancer for many years, but assisting others with their illness through natural healing. Doris was a regular speaker at FACT conventions in NYC and Philadelphia. She is also a published author; Triumph Over Cancer is in part memoir, part all-natural recipes.
Doris is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Norma Jean and Fred Forcellina, niece Tamarah Forcellina-Trautmann and husband Erik, nephew Todd Forcellina and wife, Emilie along with their son, great-nephew Jett Jackson. She is additionally survived by other family members, sister-in-law Betty Benger of Vermont, nephew David Sokosh, nieces Donna Haynes, Debbie Fredette and husband Maurice, as well as a great-niece and three great-nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 126 Newtown Avenue, Norwalk, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to F.A.C.T., Foundation for Advancement in Cancer Therapy, in New York City. http://www.rethinkingcancer.org
