Florence McNevin McGowan
Florence McNevin McGowan, 88, wife of the late Francis J. McGowan Jr., passed from this life into the hands of our Lord on May 16, 2013 at the Norwalk Hospital.
She was born on October 15th, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to Col. Alfred CB McNevin and Florence Kirwin. She attended Holy Innocents Elementary School, and was graduated from St. Angela Hall Academy in Brooklyn, NY.
She worked at CBS Television and was a homemaker. She was later employed at Norwalk Community College and in the offices of Dr. Edwin Mulford of Norwalk. She was a founding member of the Connecticut Right to Life Corporation, and was a participant in the National Right to Life March in Washington DC for many years. She was an active member of Christ the King Church in Ridgefield, CT.
Survivors include her son Frank McGowan and his wife Betsy of Norwalk, Marie Meisel and her husband John of Edwardsville, Ill, and Ray McGowan and his wife Joanne of Norwalk. The grandchildren are John and Matthew Meisel of Edwardsville, IL, and James McGowan, Maggie McGowan, Daniel McGowan, Joseph McGowan, Caitlin McGowan and Patrick McGowan, all of Norwalk, and 9 nieces and nephews including Deirdre, Carrie and David Johnson, Katherine, Nora, Barnes and Jim McNevin, and Carroll and Ricky Johnson. Predeceasing her were 2 nephews, Michael Johnson of Castro Valley, CA, and Mark Johnson of Atlanta, GA.
She was also predeceased by sisters Geraldine Johnson, Carolyn Arata, and Ann Johnson; and brother Alfred CB McNevin Jr.
Friends may call at Collins Funeral Home on Monday, May 20th from 4-8 PM. A rosary will be said at 7:30. A Mass of Catholic Burial will celebrated on Tuesday May 21st at 10 AM at Christ the King Church, 209 Tackora Trail in Ridgefield, CT. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Donations in her memory can be made to Connecticut Right to Life Corporation.
