Ida Anzalone Clarkin Hynes passed away on March 31, 2014. She was born in the Memorial Hospital in Orange, NJ on October 28, 1919 and moved to Norwalk soon after. She attended Norwalk schools and graduated from Norwalk High School in February, 1938. She attended all of the class reunions until 2009. They continue to have reunions after 75 years.
She is survived by her devoted niece Barbara Dobson and Bob Toth, who gave Ida so much love and compassion; her nephew Joseph Fanali and wife, Ruth from California, who visited her when they came home; her dear sister-in-law Gertrude Anzalone and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Clementina Morelli Anzalone from Minturno, Italy; her brothers Clayton and John Anzalone; her sisters Rose Galano and Mary Fanali; also her husband William Clarkin, who died in 1950 from complications due to serving in World War II, whom she will be buried with in the Long Island National Cemetery. Ida moved to California in 1964 after living in Bridgeport, CT with her second husband John Hynes for many years. In California, she worked for Stanford University Hospital until she retired.
She was also a celebrated Avon Representative for over 40 years. She was so happy doing this and met many people who became her dear friends. In the 40 years Ida lived in Palo Alto, CA, she developed wonderful lasting friendships and was welcomed as a member of many families. She was the wedding coordinator for her beloved Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park, CA and also brought communion to nursing homes in the area. She returned to Connecticut in 2005 and took up residence at the Brookdale Place of Wilton. She lived there until September 2012, after which she moved to Wilton Meadows.
Our deepest gratitude to all the good people at Brookdale Place who gave their constant care, compassion, and love to Aunt Ida for 7 1/2 years. Also to all the good people at Wilton Meadows, including my dear sister-in-law, Janet, who did all they could to make Aunt Ida's last days as comfortable as possible. And not least, to my dear friend, Terry who was always so supportive and visited Aunt Ida with me many times.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 7 at 10am at St. Mary Church, 669 West Ave., Norwalk with burial to follow at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. Ida's family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Sunday from 3 - 6pm.
