Longtime resident of Norwalk, Jean Thompson Silk, passed into eternal rest on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Notre Dame Convalescent Home. She was 86 and pre-deceased by her husband John Jay Silk Jr. in 1999. Born in Brooklyn NY, in 1927, she was the only child of the late Alexander Scott Thompson and Evelyn Hanlon-Thompson.
Jean worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Arthur Lubell DDS before marrying John J. Silk Jr. in 1948. She was instrumental in re-establishing Silk Plumbing & Heating in 1953 after the business was put on hold for lack of supplies and manpower during WWII.
A former member of the Norwalk Hospital Women's Board, Jean's many interests included boating, playing Bridge as a Shore & Country Club member, crocheting, gardening, and antiquing.
Jean is survived by her two sons John J. Silk III of Bridgeport and Scott Thompson Silk of Norwalk; grandson Ronald Silk and grand-daughter Karen Silk as well as a niece Donna Silk Scherr of Syosset, NY; a half-brother Kenneth Slasor of Pebble Beach, California and half-sister Linda Barnett of Sacramento, California.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
