John J. “Jack” Collins, age 89 of Norwalk, died peacefully at Heritage Village in Southbury on Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was the husband of the late Anna Lyons Collins. Jack was born in Norwalk on June 25, 1923, the son of the late James and Helen Mangan Collins and has lived locally all of his life. He attended local schools, served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and was retired from SNET. Jack was one of the original members of the Silvermine Golf Club and was an avid golfer. He was an avid boater and member of the South Norwalk Boat Club, the YMCA and the Retired Men's Club and he also enjoyed bowling.
Jack is survived by his children; Catherine A. Collins and her partner Jack Klaus of Lincoln, MA, Sharon C. Miller and her husband Fred of Redding, Timothy L. Collins and his wife Katherine of Raleigh, NC, and Brian P. Collins and his wife Vicki of Southbury, his sister Ellen Sklar, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son John J. “Jay” Collins, his daughter Mary Ellen Gregory and his sister Marie Belford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 15, 5 PM at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd., Norwalk. Burial will be on Thursday 10 AM at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.
