Paul Hamilton Martinez
Paul Hamilton Martinez, age 69, beloved husband of Barbara Latham Ereshena, passed away on August 30, 2013, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Born in Boston, MA, on October 2, 1943, he was the son of the late Eugene Martinez and Barbara Croxford Martinez.
Paul grew up in Winthrop, MA. He was a 1966 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (King's Point) with a B.S. in Marine Engineering. Upon graduation he worked for the Army Core of Engineers. Later he was employed for twelve years by Nestle' Foods Corporation as Group Manager Construction Services & Administrative Engineering. During this time he also attended Pace University School of Law at night, earning his Juris Doctorate in 1983. For the past eleven years Paul was the In House Counsel for Turner Construction Company in New York, NY. One of his proudest accomplishments at Turner was negotiating the contract for the new Yankee Stadium.
Paul was a long-time usher at the First Congregational Church on the Green in Norwalk. One of his passions was sailing on tall ships. In 2005, he was a crew member on the Bark Europa for a three-week trip to Antarctica. An avid New York Islanders and Bridgeport SoundTigers hockey fan, he instilled his love of hockey in his four grandchildren. He was instrumental in getting all of them on the ice at an early age and he was happiest when he was watching them skate.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children Jon Hamilton Martinez and his fiancée Christine Crane of Mountain View, CA, Michael Ereshena and his wife Nancy of Bridgeport, CT, Jennifer Lobasz and her husband Michael of Wallingford, CT; his grandchildren Elizabeth and Michael Ereshena and Jacek and Camden Lobasz; his brothers Robert Martinez (Shelly) of Danvers, MA, Steven Martinez (Phyllis) of Stony Brook, NY, Barry Martinez of Boston, MA, his sister-in-law Mary Martinez of North Amherst, MA; his aunt Mary Kleindienst of Honeoye, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 11 AM at The First Congregational Church on the Green in Norwalk.
