Albert Lewis Obituary

Albert L. Lewis
Resident of Stamford
Albert L. Lewis, of Stamford passed away peacefully on July 16 at Stamford Hospital. He was the widower of Eleanor J. Lewis. They would have been celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary this year. Four brothers and two sisters also predecease him.
Albert was born on April 6, 1919 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, son of Edmund and DeVeda Lewis. He was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School class of 1937, in Maine. In his youth, Albert enjoyed playing basketball and was on a travel team that competed throughout Maine. He developed his skills in woodworking and built a variety of boats in his shop. He was later employed at Bath Iron Works. As the nation was drawn into WWII, Albert served in the U.S. Army throughout Europe from 1942 through 1945.
He received an honorable discharge. He spent the early years of his marriage in Boothbay Harbor, ME prior to moving to Norwalk, CT. While living in Maine, Albert was an active member of The Masons and former Commander of the American Legion. After moving to Norwalk, Albert joined the Carpenter's union and was a successful self-employed carpenter satisfying the building needs of many customers. Albert was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in South Norwalk for over 50 years. He was also a member of the South Norwalk AARP. He enjoyed growing vegetable and flower gardens throughout his years and loved watching the Red Sox and Celtics. He was a generous soul who readily helped others. Many enjoyed listening to the humorous observations and stories he shared with the Maine accent that he never lost.
Albert enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Albert leaves behind sons David and his wife Sharon of East Hampton, CT, Bob and his wife Maryann of Cheshire, CT, and Tim and his wife Sharon of Stamford, CT. He also leaves his six loving grandchildren: Tim and his wife Caitlin of New Milford, CT, Amanda and Kayla of Stamford, CT, Gordon, Juliana and Camille of Cheshire, CT. His family will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Albert's name to the East Avenue United Methodist Church, 244 East Ave. Norwalk, CT 06855.
