Clifford Seth Ely, Jr.

Clifford Seth Ely, Jr., 89, husband of Trinette Haase Ely of Norwalk, passed away on October 18, 2013 at Wilton Meadows. Born February 24, 1924 in Norwalk, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Clifford and Helen MacKenzie Ely. He attended Norwalk High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served in the Central Pacific as a rated signalman. He later opened his own retail paint and wallpaper store in Westport, CT and retired in 1987 as the manager of The Paint Bucket.
In retirement he moved to Denton, then Easton, Maryland where he was the founder of the “Bay Country Chorus” barbershop chorus. He had been an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Norwalk and a Past-Grand of Our Brother's Lodge #10, I.O.O.F. of Norwalk.
He is survived by his daughter Sharon Ely Pearson and her husband John of Norwalk, CT; son Captain David Clark Ely, U.S. Coast Guard retired and his wife, Caroline of Berkeley, CA; granddaughter Rebecca Hays and her husband Jamie of Berlin, CT; and grandson Christopher Pearson of Middletown, CT. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Alley of Storrs, CT, and 10 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Leonard.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 36 New Canaan Road in Wilton, CT on Friday, November 1st at 7:00pm, officiated by the Rt. Rev. Thomas C. Ely and the Rev. Mary Grace Williams. The family will receive guests prior to the service, from 6:00 - 6:45pm at the church. Interment will be private.
