Craig Matheson, 81, of Westport, and husband of Annetta (McCartney) Matheson, passed away Saturday, August 3rd at Norwalk Hospital. Mr Matheson was born September 22, 1931 in Middleboro, Massachusetts, son of the late Jack and Verna (Dunphy) Matheson, and has been a Westport resident for the past fifty-six years. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine, received his Master's degree from Wesleyan University, and did his Doctoral work at Columbia University. Mr. Matheson is a longtime member and former Deacon at the Saugatuck Congregational Church and a member of the Westport Y's Men. He joined the faculty at Staples High School in 1957, at which time he started The Staples Players. From 1972 thru 1990, Mr. Matheson taught and was an administrator at Darien High School, and in 1989 he began teaching at Norwalk Community College, where he taught right up until his passing. Mr. Matheson served his community by participating in many civic organizations and charitable outreaches.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 52 years include three daughters, Christina Logan of Tolland, CT, Gail Matheson of Istanbul, Turkey, and Mary Matheson Weiss of NYC; two sisters, Shirley Vincent of Salem, NH, and Virginia Lemaire of Taunton, MA; and four grandchildren, Craig, Forrest, and Annie Logan and Kate Weiss.
