Aaron Jerome Mones, age 88, of Norwalk, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. He was the loving husband of Catherine Marino Mones. Aaron was born in Kingston, NY on June 22, 1924, son of the late Jacob and Nellie Teats Mones and has lived in Norwalk for most of his life. He was a retired tool and die maker. Aaron was an avid fisherman, enjoyed bowling and loved spending time with his family. He was also a member of the VFW.
During WW II Aaron flew 40 missions in the Pacific as a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He was in the 494th Bomber Group, 865th Bomb Squad and left the service as a Staff Sergeant.
In addition to his wife survivors include two sons, Mark Mones and his wife Kim Calzone Mones of Norwalk, and Craig Mones and his wife LaJean Frieden Mones of Trumbull, a daughter, Cathy Mones of Norwalk, a brother Irving Mones of FL, a sister Sydell Schneider of CA, 4 grandchildren, Dusty Mones and his wife Kylie, Jordy Mones , Ryan Mones and Brittany Mones, and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother Albert Mones.
Services will be held Today (Friday), Sept. 28, 4 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Aaron's family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5-8 PM. Entombment with full military honors will be at St. John Cemetery on Saturday at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to CT Hospice, 1 Park St., Norwalk, 06851.
