Resident of Norwalk
Alice H. Petropoulos, age 86, of Norwalk, beloved wife of the late Dr. John C. Petropoulos, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Aurora Senior Living in Norwalk. She was born in Greenwich to the late William and Marie (Bogart) Hamm. Alice is survived by her 4 sons: Christos, William, Peter and James; her 2 daughters: Cynthia Damato and Athena Foreit; her children's spouses; 18 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; her sister, Lois Mack and many other family members. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Hamm.
Following graduation from Norwalk High School, Alice attended the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her diploma and began her nursing career in the nursery. She left to raise her family, and then returned to nursing as a private duty nurse, later serving for many years as a nurse for the Norwalk Public School system, where she was lovingly known as “Yiayia” by the students. Her caring nature was also apparent in her love for animals and pets, especially those that she “inherited” with numerous ailments. She was a devout member of the Church of the Archangels in Stamford, where she taught Sunday School for more than 25 years and was an active member of the Philoptochos Society and Senior Group. Alice enjoyed spending time with her family, dancing, golfing, traveling and volunteering for the Girl Scouts of America among other passions.
