Benjamin W. "Ben" Olmstead, of Norwalk died Thursday, July 24th at Norwalk Hospital. He was the loving husband for 40 years of Donna Pollastro Olmstead. Born in Norwalk on August 29, 1942, Ben was the son of the late Benjamin H. and Grace Linnartz Olmstead. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School, Class of 1960. He then served active duty in the U.S. Army from 1964 -1968, served Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1970. Ben was a surveyor for the Town of New Canaan Department of Public Works for 36 years and was widely liked and admired by all who knew him. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved the NY Yankees and mostly loved being with his family. He attended band and sporting events of his children, nieces, nephews and granddaughter. He loved talking about construction with his sons-in-law. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife, Ben is survived by his adoring daughters, Kim Olmstead Dennehy and her husband Neil, Lisa Olmstead Weed and her husband Mark, all of Norwalk, his granddaughter Julia Grace Dennehy, sister Patricia Weaver and her husband Wallace of NH and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a beloved brother-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wed. July 30th, 10 AM, at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd., Norwalk with a burial to follow at Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport. Ben's family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Tuesday, July 29th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to St. Jerome Church.
