Constance Gardner Loynes

Long-time Westport resident Constance Gardner Loynes, 77, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 27. 2012.
The daughter of Robert and Margaret MacGarvey Gardner, she was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts and grew up in Augusta, Maine. She graduated from Gould Academy in Maine and the Boston University School of Education. Connie as she liked to be called was an elementary school teacher in Massachusetts and New Jersey.
She married John Loynes of Lowell, Massachusetts in 1959. They had two children, Janet and Douglas, and raised them in Rowayton, Connecticut before moving to Westport in 1975.
Connie was an avid art collector and had a strong passion for gardening and classical music which she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
She was an active volunteer with the Rowayton Beach Association, the Rowayton Garden Club, the Westport Nature Center and the Norwalk Maritime Center. She was a founder of the River Ramble festival in Rowayton and was a member of the Fairfield County Horticultural Society.
She is survived by her husband John, her daughter Janet and son-in law Jeff Keener of Granby, Connecticut, her son Douglas and daughter in-law Julie of Dublin, Ohio; three beloved grandchildren, Erin of Granby, Ryan and Jonathan of Dublin; and a brother Robert S. Gardner of Wakefield, Massachusetts.
A private funeral service for the family will be held in Nashua, New Hampshire. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Rd. E., Westport is assisting the family with the arrangements.
