Deacon John Harris Sr.
Deacon John Harris Sr., 85, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 12, 2012. He was born on June 22, 1927 in Fairmont, West Virginia, son of the late Charles L. Harris and Addie Mays Harris. He was married to the late Willie Pearl Brooks.
John served in the U.S. Army and began a boxing career as a Golden Glove Boxer in Cleveland, Ohio. He retired from Machlett Laboratories as a machinist.
John leaves to cherish his memories one son John Harris Jr. of Norwalk, CT; five daughters Dale Stewart of Washington, DC, Frances Harris of Buffalo, NY, Arlisa Harris of Bridgeport, CT, Patricia Davis of Middleburg, FL and Nicole Harris (fiancée Anthony) of Bridgeport, CT; eleven grandchildren, eleven great- grandchildren and many loving god children, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his cherished boxing family.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00 AM at Grace Baptist Church, 17 West Ave., Norwalk, CT with Pastor Derek L. Calhoun of New Vision International Ministries officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk, CT. Arrangements entrusted to Downer Funeral Home, Norwalk, CT.
