Dorothy M. Ward, (nee Murphy) 88, formerly of Norwalk, CT passed away on July 29th, 2012 at the Riddle Village Retirement Community in Media, PA, her home for the last six years.
Born on January 1, 1924 in Newton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Francis Patrick Murphy and Mae Karol Murphy. A graduate of Newton High School and Tufts University, Dorothy worked in Japan for the Air Force as the director of the service club for enlisted men. A world traveler, bridge player and theatre lover, Dorothy was also active in the League of Women Voters in Harrisburg, PA and the director of RSVP in Norwalk from 1975 till 1992. During her time at RSVP, Dorothy went on to get a Masters in Gerontology at Bridgeport University. Upon her retirement, she and her late husband, Charles Edward Ward, II moved to Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where she lived until 2006. She loved reading, history and spending time with her children.
She is survived by sons, Charles Ward, of NYC, Dave Ward of Ramona, CA, Patrick Ward, of Lansdowne, PA, and daughter, Karol Ward of NYC and two grandchildren, Josie and Eric.
