Gilbert H. Johnson
Gilbert H. Johnson, 93, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, May 23 at Oak Bridge Terrace. Vero Beach.
He was born July 5, 1918 in Spuylen Duyvil, New York and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1981 coming from Fairfield, CT.
He was an alumnus of Mercersburg Academy and Cornell University. He was a veteran of W.W.II serving as a Naval Aviator.
His business career was primarily in the heavy machinery industry. While residing in Easton and Fairfield, CT he was a member of the Black Rock Yacht Club, the Country Club of Fairfield and Brooklawn Country Club, where he served on the Board of Governors and as President. He served on the Board of Governors and as Chairman of the Golf Committee for the Moorings Club, Vero Beach.
He is survived by nieces, Faith Johnson Schofeld, Hope Johnson McCharen, and Rosalyn Wood Thebaud and nephews; Bradley Northrop and Dr. Russell S. Wood. He was predeceased in 2005 by his wife of 60 years Juanita Wood Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at Community Church in Vero Beach on June 22, 2012.
