Formerly of Wilton
Harry R. Abbott, 88, from Wilton, Connecticut and Largo, Florida passed away on June 27, 2012. He was born in Wilton, CT, son of Harry and Caroline Abbott and lived there most of his life before retiring to Florida. A veteran, he served in the US ARMY in W.W.II as a Battalion Motor Sergeant in France, Germany and the Philippines.
In 1943 he married Susan Stolle of Ridgefield and had been married 68 years. He owned Abbott's Garage in South Norwalk and retired after 46 years to work in the antique and collectable business. A life member of the Wilton Volunteer Fire Department, he served as chief for many years. He served as president of the Independent Garage Owners of Connecticut and was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Wilton Playshop.
He is survived by his wife Susan; brothers Charles Abbott, Kenneth Abbott; sister Caroline Strempel; sons and wives James and Debbie of Wilton, Richard and Marianne of Ringwood, NJ and Harry W. and Patricia of Redding, along with 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Bouton Funeral Home on July 1st from 5 to 8PM. A church service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 208 Newtown Ave., Norwalk on July 2nd at 10AM with burial services following at Hillside Cemetery in Wilton.
Donations in his memory can be given to the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Norwalk.
