Helen Fabrizio Roach of Norwalk, 89, passed away on Friday, June 7th, 2013 at Norwalk Hospital. Born on July 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Michele and Catherine Caccio Fabrizio.
Helen was the proud owner of Norwalk Safe driving school, founded in 1947, and continued teaching driving for over 50 years. She was the first female driving instructor in the state of Connecticut. Helen was also the first female to attend Cristio in the state of CT in the Spanish language. She then was instrumental in translating the program into the English language.
Helen is survived by her only son Edward James Roach and his wife Patricia, by her brother Leonardo Ferrara and his wife Betty and by her three grandchildren James Edward Roach, Kimberly Ann Bedini and Timothy Brian Roach; great grandchildren James Tyler Roach, Alec Francis Bedini, Lauren Marie Roach and Alexa Danielle Bedini as well as by her step-grandchild Carrie, Isadoro and Jessica Aviles and step-great-grandchildren, Joey Justin and Jalissa Aviles.
She was predeceased by her siblings Phyllis, Philip, James and Mildred.
Friends may call from 4 8 PM on Tuesday, June 11th at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM in St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate).
