Rev. Herbert F. Holz Jr.
Formerly of Norwalk
The Rev. Herbert F. Holz Jr., 80, died very peacefully on Saturday, July 21, 2012. He was born on September 2, 1931 in East Norwalk, CT, the son of the late Herbert F. Holz, Sr. and Anna (Miko) Holz.
Rev. Holz was graduated from Concordia Collegiate Institute in Bronxville, NY in 1950 and Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, IL in 1957 and was ordained and installed into the holy ministry at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Crestview, FL on August 18, 1957. He also served as missionary at large to Lutheran congregations in Florala, AL and DeFuniak Springs, FL. In February of 1961 the Lutheran Church in Milton, FL held its first services under his missionary guidance. Rev. Holz then served St. Matthew's in New Orleans, LA from 1963-1970 and Zion Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, CT from 1971-1998.
He is survived by his wife, Linnea K. (Stietzel) Holz of Exeter, NH, whom he married on April 21, 1963; two daughters, Christine and husband Brian Nase of Weare, NH, Linnea and husband Malcolm Hauthaway of Exeter, NH; one son, Herbert F. and wife Heather Holz, III of Seymour, CT; one sister, Geraldine Brown of Old Saybrook, CT; and four grandchildren, Hailey and Mackenzie Nase, Michaela and Sydney Hauthaway.
A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 673 Weston Rd., Manchester, NH, on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM, with a reception to follow services at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in his memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 673 Weston Rd., Manchester, NH 03103, Zion Lutheran Church, 612 Grand St., Bridgeport, CT 06606, or to the Wentworth Connection Day Program, 127 Parrott Ave., Portsmouth, NH 03801.
