On July 5, 2012, Mrs. Iris Hilton went to sleep in the loving arms of Jesus Christ. She was the daughter of the late Verdie Lee Joseph Jackson.
Born in Kingsland, GA, Iris moved to Norwalk, CT with her family. As a youth, she became a member of the Calvary Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was baptized into the Christian faith. Iris married the late Edward Hilton of Manning, SC, and reared two adoring children. Fiercely independent and always adventurous, Iris worked as a limousine driver for several years for a small business she helped found, ferrying executives to airports and to the bustling streets of New York City.
After many years in Connecticut, Iris longed for the peace and comfort of her Georgia roots and returned home to Kingsland in 1988. Upon her return, she became a member of the St. Paul AME Church. Iris worked at Amelia Island and finally, became a long-time dedicated employee for the State of Georgia as a Child Support Enforcement Agent. She was passionate about service and helping people.
She leaves behind to cherish in loving memory her devoted children, Leslie Hilton of Woodbridge VA and Jon Hilton of Orange Park, FL; her loving granddaughter, Alexus Kinslow of Palm Coast, FL; her siblings, twin, Irene (Bradford) Smith of Kingsland, GA, Johnette (Roy, deceased) Jarrett of Houston, TX, Lillie (Ernest) Carnegie of Kingsland, GA, Karyta (Richard) Allgood of Jacksonville, FL, and Rosalee, Dottie and Nathaniel Green all of Folkston, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Mrs. Hilton will be interned on Thursday, July 12, 2012 by the Sunset Funeral Home at 401 N. Lee St., Kingsland, GA 31548.
