Janina Mirowska Potrykus, age 85, of Norwalk, died on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at her home with her loving family by her side. Born December 31, 1927 in Wola Korybutowiecka, Poland, the daughter of the late Jan and Zofia (Wojtowicz) Mirowski, she married Grzegorz Potrykus on February 27, 1954 in Slough, England. One of the survivors of the Holocaust, she traveled through Europe, Siberia and North Africa, before coming to the US in 1958. She loved gardening, cooking and spending time with her family and her cherished grandchildren.
She is survived by her 4 children; John Potrykus and his wife Patrice, Roman Potrykus and his wife Patricia, and Elizabeth Morrell and her husband Danny, and Steven Potrykus and Jessica, all of Norwalk; four grandchildren Kelsey Potrykus, Daniel, Brian and Tracey Morrell, and a sister Helena Tomasiewicz. She was pre-deceased by 3 brothers and a sister; Zdzislaw, Michael and Stephan Mirowski and Irena Ostasiewicz.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, March 9 from 8:30 -9:30 AM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, at St. Philip Church, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.
