Joe Tamsky

Joe Tamsky of Harwich, Cape Cod (MA), died on Saturday, September 1, 2012 after a brief illness. He would have celebrated his 88th birthday on October 5th.
Joe was born and raised in New Haven, CT, where he graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor's degree in architecture. He then went on to earn a Masters' Degree in City Planning from MIT in Cambridge, MA. He enlisted in the Naval ROTC in 1940, served in the Pacific, and was stationed in Guam at the end of W.W.II.
Joe worked as an associate planner in Philadelphia and then for the planning departments of New Britain, Hartford, and Manchester in CT. He retired as Planning Director for the City of Norwalk in 1988.
Joe's passion was sailing. Self- taught, he was never more at home than when sailing into a brisk wind with tiller in one hand, main sheet in the other, and a favorite pipe clenched in his teeth.
Joe will be missed by his wife, Milly and his four children: son Adam of Ledyard, and son Ben of Mystic, CT, son Ezra of Milford, MA, and daughter Stella of Norwalk, CT, as well as his grandchildren: Lorraine, Pieter, and Andrew; daughters-in-law: Eleanor, Lisa, and Claudia, and son-in-law, Eric.
Arrangements are being made by Nickerson Funeral Home of Chatham, MA. Please visit the website at www.nickersonfunerals.com.
Those wishing to honor Joe's memory are requested to make donations in his name to Doctors Without Borders.
